CLUB KURU LAYLA

The evolution of Club Kuru over the past eighteen months or so has been intriguing to watch. Taking Laurie Erskine's debut track working under the moniker, the stormy electronic-pop banger 'All The Days', and comparing it to 'Layla', his latest effort, it's plain to see that grooves and melody are becoming all the more key to Club Kuru's aesthetic. Of course, we're still treated to those yearning '80s tinged synthesizer swells Erskine has made his own, but there's more R&B touches than ever before: soulful, deep vocal hooks, woozy background instrumentals and trembling 808 sections. It's a real beauty, and guaranteed to get your feet twitching. Expect more of the same on Club Kuru's upcoming EP release via Believe Recordings next month. - DC
